BALTIMORE ARTS & HUMANITES GRANTS PROGRAM IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Artists, performers and writers who add to Baltimore's cultural abundance may now receive funding through the Baltimore Arts & Humanities Grants Program for individual artists, community arts projects and small arts organizations. The program provides grants of as much as $4,000 for quality and creative programming in the humanities, visual, performing and literary arts. The grants intend to promote interest, involve communities and provide accessibility to the arts throughout Baltimore's neighborhoods. Grant applications are now being accepted through Friday, February 9, 2007. The Baltimore Arts & Humanities Grants Program is funded in part through the Maryland State Arts Council and is a program of Mayor Martin O'Malley and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.
Three types of Baltimore Arts Grants are available: Individual Artist Grants ($1,000 awards), Community Arts Projects Grants ($500-$2,000 awards) and General Funding Grants ($500-$4,000 awards). The Individual Artist Grants are designed to support Baltimore artists working in their discipline of practice. Community Arts Projects Grants assist programming that promotes community participation and a process of discovery in the arts. General Funding Grants are available to nonprofit cultural organizations, and defray general operating expenses and administrative costs. These grants fund individual artists and artist groups residing in Baltimore City and nonprofit organizations in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
A review panel composed of artists and arts administrators evaluates the candidates. Applicants must submit the application form, relevant documentation, video or audio tapes, copies of literary work or other written support materials, professional resumes, and letters of support from appropriate representatives and/or publicity materials. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, February 9 for consideration. Recipients will be announced Wednesday, April 11, 2007.
