Free WiFi at the Pratt!

THE PRATT'S LIGHT STREET BRANCH GOES WIRELESS

The Light Street Branch is the seventh Pratt Location offering free wireless internet

BALTIMORE
Beginning Wednesday, March 25, the Light Street Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library will be providing free wireless internet to all of its patrons. The free WiFi and other technological renovations to this branch, including ten new public computers, is part of the $500,000 donation by Bank of America to the Pratt Library last fall.

Due to the installation of wireless service and additional computers, the Light Street Branch will be closed from Thursday, March 19 through Tuesday, March 24. It will re-open on Wednesday, March 25.

We are very grateful to Bank of America and their very generous contribution to continue our mission, says Carla D. Hayden, Chief Executive Officer of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. During these tough economic times, public access is our priority. The free WiFi and additional computers will allow patrons to access the educational and employment resources they need.

The Bank of America donation, one of the largest corporate contributions the Library has received to date provided wireless capabilities for the Central Library and technological renovations to five branches across Baltimore.

The Light Street Branch joins seven other Pratt locations that are already providing free WiFi: Central Library, Southeast Anchor Library, Waverly Branch, Orleans Street Branch, Roland Park Branch and Northwood Branch.

Nationwide, 60 percent of people who visit a public library do so primarily to use computers and access the Internet. And with 40 percent of Baltimore City households lacking internet access at home, the Pratt's more than 500 public computers are often the only way for visitors to go online. Support of the Library's technology initiatives will help thousands of customers, from the very youngest to seniors, benefit from educational, workforce development and personal enrichment opportunities made possible through access to these computers. In addition, the Pratt Library also offers free computer classes at several neighborhood branches.
